PhD Candidate, Applied Linguistics, The Pennsylvania State University
I conduct qualitative research in the form of live discourse analysis (LDA). LDA draws from antenarrative theory and discourse analysis to bring more storying, creativity, and play within academic writing. LDA stories with an applied linguistics discipline that commits itself to rigorous, evidence-based knowledge, while often leaving the storied nature of academic discourse unspoken.
I also teach English speaking and writing to multilingual students at secondary and university levels. My teaching approach asks, “What is voice in the age of AI?” I ask that question literally. Students submit assignments as audio recordings. I respond in kind with video feedback, emphasizing instructor immediacy and connection in an era where GenAI can turn in and grade all of our homework.
Story with me as make individual and collective bets on the future of language use and language teaching.
